5 Tips to Manage Back Pain

Most of us aren't strangers to back pain. Whether it be from sitting too much or from an injury you're carrying, back pain can be frustrating. There is so much you can do to help correct it. Movement is critical. Bringing blood flow in starts to initiate the healing process. Here are 5 tips to get your started.

  1. Move. Your back moves in 3 directions. Forwards/Backward, Side/Side and Twisting. Make sure you get a bit of everything.

  2. Add some core work into your diet. 80% of back pain is attributed to a weak core.

  3. Stretch. Hamstrings are key for your back getting what it needs. Lay on your back and lengthen your leg up towards the sky. Keep a bend in the knee if you're super tight. Aim to stay for 2 mins/side.

  4. Knee rocks. Our back doesn't have a way to get hydration into it. It relies on changes in pressure. This is an easy way to flush it with some fluid. Lay on your back with bent knees, feet as wide as your mat. Rock pelvis gently, letting knees find their own rhythm for 30 seconds. Stretch out after and feel the goodness.

  5. Sleep with a pillow between your knees. If you are waking up with back pain, this is a great thing to add in especially if you sleep on your side. It helps keep the pelvis in alignment.

If you'd like more, there are plenty of videos in the library for back health, otherwise jump into a yoga class and feel the difference.
